Everything about Mom’s Kitchen & Bar exudes “comfort”. The restaurant’s name alone successfully creates this strong first impression. When you go inside, you’re greeted with black and white zigzag patterned flooring that matches with the rest of the building. The walls are littered with paraphernalia from decades prior, with televisions playing shows and movies its patrons will be quick to remember growing up. The nostalgic appeal doesn’t end there, though. With happy hours and trivia nights themed around pop culture, Mom’s Kitchen & Bar successfully brings together fans of various shows like Friends or The Office (there’s a trivia night coming up at their Midtown location on March 18th). Speaking of, customers walk in pretty much wearing whatever. As the restaurant name suggests, people should feel at home here without worrying about a strict dress code.

The menu, while not unlike a diner, is diverse in its offerings of flavors and toppings and is bound to appeal to everyone’s taste buds. Mom’s Burger was perfect for someone like me who enjoys the classic bacon, cheese, and burger combo. Their array of appetizers was equally delicious, most especially their spicy, Korean Cauliflower Bites. Both were filling and satisfying. Mom’s Kitchen & Bar's signature milkshakes and cocktails also warrant attention with their creative names and combination of ingredients. My personal favorite is their “Get Out of My Swamp” cocktail, which I highly recommend you try (you’re always free to say “Hahaha, I get that reference” and order something else, though).

A fair warning though, neither their Astoria nor Midtown locations take reservations, and you’ll likely have to wait a while for a table, so be sure to plan your day accordingly. Regardless, Mom’s Kitchen & Bar is the perfect place to sit and eat comfortably with friends and family (bonus points if you’re all nerds).
